4 Reasons Why One Room Is So Hot Compared to the Rest of the House

Here are some of the reasons why one room is always so hot.

1. Undersized AC Unit

Think of the rooms in your home as people—some bigger, some smaller. Much like how different-sized people have different needs, different-sized rooms require different things in order to be heated or cooled. Some may take a long time to cool, while other rooms cool and heat quickly.

Size and location of rooms is a big factor, but ultimately, if your system is the right size, it should be able to factor in these attributes and cool them accordingly.

If certain rooms in your home are always warmer, then there may be an issue with the size of your system.

An AC system that is too small will not be able to effectively cool or heat a home because it’s always working overtime to try and compensate for its small size. In this case, a room that’s always warmer is probably getting the short end of the stick due to the system being too small.

2. Clogged Air Filters

Don’t forget to change your air filters.

One of the easiest things you can do to maintain your AC system is to do a little upkeep each month by replacing the air filter.

Dirty air filters can stall the airflow to certain parts of your home and can make one room warmer than others. This is a good incentive to change your filter monthly!

3. Structural Issues

There are many structural issues that could be working against your air conditioning system.

Some structural issues include:

  • Insufficient insulation
  • Air may be leaking out through windows and doors
  • Oversized windows could be letting in a lot of heat
  • Old roofing could be affected by hotspots

Oh, the joys of being a homeowner!

Luckily, a simple inspection from your local professionals at Climate Design can determine if any of these are a factor.

4. Air Duct Issues

Air ducts can experience a number of issues that could make one room hotter than the others in your home, such as a clog or block.

Cool air reaches the rooms of your homes via air ducts, so an obstruction will make airflow difficult.

Air ducts can pull apart and leak cool air and small animals in the attic tend to tear holes in ducts over time.

Luckily, an air duct issue can usually be fixed pretty easily.
