It’s a known fact to most, our Air Conditioners use more energy then any other appliance in the home. This can put a strain on both our wallets and the environment. But how can we stay cool in the hot Florida summer without blasting the AC?
On a global scale, Americans use more AC than any other country on the planet. As the standard of living rises in developing countries around the world, so does the desire for comfort. The vicious circle in this situation is that as millions more people are able to cool off artificially for the first time, the demand for energy will skyrocket. This demand in energy will add to the earth’s climate change and global warming, which in turn increases the demand for AC.
Here are a few simple ways that you can conserve energy this summer and still avoid sweating!
Save on Air Conditioning
Energy use skyrockets in the summer as temperatures rise. Our first instinct is to crank the thermostat down to the low 70’s and even 60’s as temperatures can creep up to the 90’s. Keep the shades drawn during the day and lose the incandescent lights. By doing this, you will not only remove excess heat from your home, but will also conserve energy.
Turn Off the Lights
Because of daylight savings, the days are naturally longer during the summer months. Pull the curtains aside and let in the natural light. You will be able to conserve energy and dramatically cut down on your utility bill!
