Watch What Goes In

This may seem like a no-brainer, but oftentimes we forget that not everything can safely go down the sink—especially if you don’t have a garbage disposal.  To prevent your drain from clogging, practice being mindful of everything that goes in the sink and down the drain. Drain stoppers are convenient tools that can help stop excess waste before it ends up down drain!
What not to put down your kitchen drain:
– Coffee grounds
– Eggshells
– Produce stickers

– Cooking oils, fats and grease
– Large amounts of hair

Run Hot Water after Each Use

Oils are common culprits of clogged drains. Unfortunately, since oils appear similar to water, many of us assume that they are safe to put down the drain. However, oils can solidify and stick to the interior surface of the drain pipes and cause build up over time. This can ultimately lead to sluggish drains and clogs. Luckily, you can combat this by running hot water after you use your sink. Simply allow warm or hot water to run down the drain for about 30 seconds. Be careful to not use boiling water, as this can be too hot for the drains to handle.

Vinegar + Warm Water

Vinegar is a miracle worker and can be used in place of many household cleaners so it’s not surprising that it can help prevent sink clogging too. Vinegar contains acetic acid, which helps to naturally remove organic buildup in pipes and drains. All you have to do is pour one cup of vinegar down the drain and let it sit for 20 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
