How to Improve Your Home’s Comfort

Many claim that “home is where the heart is.” While this may be true, we at Climate Design believe that home is also where you’re comfortable. Unfortunately, troubles with your home’s air can get in the way of your personal comfort. That’s why we’re bringing you some basic tips on how to make your home a place of relaxation and coziness.

Humidifiers or Dehumidifiers

Both humid and dry air can affect your home’s comfort level. Humid air will always leave you feeling hot and sweaty, and can even lead to dangerous mold. On the other hand, air that is too dry can crack your skin and make you itchy. Sometimes dry air can even lead to flu like symptoms.

Luckily, either a humidifier or dehumidifier can solve either of these problems. To determine if your air is too dry or moist, all you need is a hygrometer. This device is sold at most retail stores and measures the amount of moisture in the air. The most comfortable humidity level is around 40%. Anything under or around 25% is going to be too dry, and over 55% is too humid.

Change Your Air Filters

The quality of your air is an important part of your home’s comfort. Dirty air quality can leave you feeling sick and your home covered in dust. While it may be easy to forget to change your air filters, dirty filters are one of the leading causes of poor air quality.

Make sure you change your air filters at least once a month to keep your air safe. One way to remember is setting a notification on your phone to go off once a month. You can also set up email reminders to let you know it’s time to change your filter.

Seal Leaks

Air can sneak in through your doors or windows, causing an annoying draft. Not only is this uncomfortable, it means you’re spending more money on your energy bill. Seal leaks to stop pesky drafts. If the air is coming from under the window or door, then try replacing the gasket. If the leak is coming from around the doors or windows, then use caulk to seal the leak.

Invest in a Smart Thermostat

A smart thermostat is a great way to keep your home comfortable and save you money. Smart thermostats today can actually learn your schedule. This way it will adjust your home’s temperature to meet your personal comfort when your home, and to the most money saving mode when you’re away. You can also adjust the thermostat from your phone, so if you’re coming home early, your home will be the perfect temperature by the time of your arrival.
