If you own a business, you know there are many questions that can keep you up at night. Will you make payroll? Should you renovate? How can you get more patrons to visit your establishment? How to fix a running urinal shouldn’t be one of them.
So to make things easier for you, we’ve made a quick list of things to do to troubleshoot a urinal, so that you can focus on the important stuff.
How to Stop a Urinal From Running
Step 1. Shut off the water supply. If you’re renting your location and don’t have access to the valve, ask your landlord to do this for you.
Step 2. Stop the water flow to the urinal. With a flat head screwdriver, turn the water shut off screw to the left three or four times (until it’s tight).
Step 3. Remove the control stop valve cap. You’ll need a wrench to do it. Make sure to keep a bowl or container around, since water may come out when you remove the cap.
Step 4. Pull out the old control valve. You’ll see a metal spring first. Pull it out, then pull out the rubber portion of it. Replace it with a new one (which you can buy at any hardware store).
Step 5. Screw the valve cap back on. Tighten it with a wrench.
Step 6. Turn on the water supply. Once that’s done, use your flat head screwdriver to twist the water shut off screw to the right.
