DIY Toilet Cleaners

Does the thought of cleaning your toilet make you want to gag? The mixture of toxic chemicals found in commercial toilet cleaners may gross you out even more. Warnings on the back of the bottle reveal what temperature they should be stored in, and all of the risks involved with using the product. The number for the Poison Control Center is often in bold letters!

There are many alternatives you can use instead of the standard commercial ones. Natural, homemade toilet bowl cleaners are almost always readily available and completely safe for your family.

Here are three natural toilet bowl cleaners:

Tea Tree Toilet Bowl Scrub

This deodorizing formula uses the antibacterial properties of tea tree oil in order to kill germs in your toilet bowl and on toilet surfaces. Combine one 1/2 cup of baking soda, one cup distilled white vinegar and one 1/2 teaspoon tea tree essential oil. Combine the vinegar and tea tree oil in a spray bottle. Sprinkle the baking soda inside toilet bowl and scrub with a brush.

Heavy Duty Toilet Formula

This formula is great for taking care of unsightly toilet rings and other rough toilet cleaning. Combine 3/4 cup of borax, one cup white vinegar, ten drops of lavender essential oil and five drops of lemon essential oil. Allow the mixture to sit in the bowl for several hours before flushing away to reveal a sparkling commode.

Lazy Day Toilet Scrub

Keep a spray bottle of vinegar and a can of baking soda in the bathroom. When it’s time to clean, thoroughly spritz the toilet with the vinegar and allow to sit for several minutes. Sprinkle the baking soda inside the bowl, scrub the inside of the bowl and flush.

You can easily use one of these recipes or can also combine any of the natural ingredients found in the recipes to create your own cleaner!
