3 Ways to Conserve Energy in the Summertime

It’s no surprise that our energy bills tend to rise during the warmest months. But keeping your cool doesn’t have to mean going bankrupt.  Fortunately for both your comfort and your wallet, there are lots of easy ways you can conserve energy, even in the summertime while still keeping cool.

Take Advantage of Ceiling Fans

Ceiling fans can keep your home cool and comfortable while conserving energy in the process. And although ceiling fans alone won’t be enough to cool your home, when used in conjunction with your AC, they can do the trick. For starters, try turning on the ceiling fans and set your thermostat to 78 degrees when you’re at home, and 85 degrees (or off) when you’re away. Using the ceiling fans will create air movement throughout the room, which will make up for the temperature increase on the thermostat. This will help you keep your cool, but while using less energy.

Seal the Air Ducts

Did you know that leaky air ducts can increase your cooling costs by as much as 25 percent? Because you likely use your air conditioner more during the summertime, it’s important that your air ducts are properly sealed. If not, your home won’t be as comfortable as possible and your money will almost literally be flying out of the window.

If you suspect your air ducts are leaky, contact the professionals at Climate Design. One of our experienced technicians can test your air ducts to ensure they don’t have any leaks or restrictions.

Change Your Air Filter

When was the last time you changed your air filter? If you can’t remember, then chances are it’s been too long. One of the easiest ways to conserve energy in the summertime (and year round) is by regularly changing your air filter. When you don’t change the air filter regularly, your AC has to work much harder to provide the same cooling power. As a result, your home won’t be as cool as possible and your energy bill will be higher. Not sure how often you should be changing your air filter?
