10 Signs Your Air Conditioner Needs a Tune-Up

We are diligent when it comes to tuning up our cars. Our air conditioner, on the other hand, is something we take for granted. If it’s blowing cold air, we assume it’s all-good. Your air conditioner is just like your car. Without regular tune-ups, it won’t last and as a Floridian our air conditioner means our comfort. The following are 10 signs that your air conditioner needs a tune-up:

1. High Energy Bill

Operation costs are higher than normal. Keep an eye on your electric bill. The minute you notice it is not within normal range, consider the fact that it could be your AC that is causing it.

2. Weak Air Flow

There is less air coming out. This could mean clogged filters and a tune-up will quickly get it back to normal.

3. No Air Coming From AC

No air is coming out of your unit. While filters could be clogged, this could also mean your fan is not working and the unit needs immediate attention.

4. Warm Air Coming From AC

The air coming out is not keeping your home cool. Several things can be the cause of non-standard temperatures.

5. AC Smells Bad

When your air conditioner comes on, you can smell a musty odor. Your unit and ducts, if littered with debris, will need to be cleaned as part of the tune-up process.

6. AC is Loud

The noise level of your air conditioner is higher than normal. Louder units can be a serious problem if not taken care of immediately.

7. Strange Noises Coming From AC

If your unit makes clanking or banging sounds on startup, it is critical to have it checked out immediately. This tune-up could save you costly future repairs.

8. AC is Leaking Water

If you notice moisture building up around your air conditioner, it is not functioning properly. A tune-up will be able to determine whether you have a refrigerant leak or another issue with your air conditioner.

9. AC is Dirty

The inside of your air conditioner is dusty and dirty. A tune-up will include cleaning the unit and changing the filters.

10. Haven’t had a Tune-Up in Over a Year

You haven’t had your air conditioner tuned up in over a year. This is extremely important, as a yearly tune-up can be the one measure that saves you money. One small problem can lead to many larger problems, including the need to replace your air conditioner. A yearly tune-up could prevent this.
